River Description:
The Lower Animas is a relaxing trip great for families, groups and first timers. The trip takes you through historic Durango with a "river's view" of the region. A few rippling rapids include Pinball, Sawmill and Smelter. This trip can be squeezed in a short time frame and is perfect for a quick ride down the river. The river exposes several historical features of the town of Durango. The Upper Animas is considered one of the most difficult rafting trips in the United States. The trip is for the high adventurer and not recommended for first timers or those who are not physically fit. The run is continuous whitewater with over one hundred Class III-V rapids over 26 miles. Spectacular scenery beginning in Silverton with 14,000 foot peaks soaring from the river banks. Hold On!
